Mark Young, affectionately known by nicknames such as “Tex” and “Marky Mark & the Funky Bunch,” was born in Texarkana, Texas, but spent most of his formative years in Nashville, Arkansas. From a young age, Mark was fueled by a passion for exploration, dreaming of a career as a professional traveler. This sense of adventure has stayed with him throughout his life, pushing him to explore new avenues both personally and professionally.
Mark’s journey has taken him to various locations across the country. After growing up in Nashville, he moved to Fayetteville to attend college, where he lived until he was 25. Later, his path took him to Memphis, Tennessee, where he spent 15 years, and most recently to Little Rock/North Little Rock in 2021. He even had a brief stint in Orlando, Florida, during college, where he worked at Disney World as part of the Walt Disney World College Program.
Originally, Mark set out to pursue a legal career, earning a degree in Political Science. However, life had other plans, and he found himself drawn into the world of television news after starting part-time work at KHOG-TV in Fayetteville. What started as a college job turned into a 20-year career, during which he held various roles, including Director, Producer, Production Manager, Executive Producer, and Marketing Director in Memphis. Alongside his television work, Mark developed a deep love for sports broadcasting and still serves as a technical director for Memphis Grizzlies and Memphis Tigers home basketball games— a role he thoroughly enjoys to this day. His professional journey also saw him earning an MBA in 2008.
In 2020, Mark decided it was time to return to his original plan of pursuing a law degree. He is now a part-time 3L student at Bowen School of Law in Little Rock. His days are full, juggling a full-time position as the Social Media Manager for the Department of Human Services, part-time work as a law clerk at WH Law, and managing a variety of side ventures, including a mobile notary service, an online e-commerce store, and working as a real estate agent.
Mark thrives on helping others, whether through his legal work, his role as a social media manager, or his passion for sports broadcasting. Outside of his professional life, he is an avid coin collector, firearm enthusiast, and sci-fi nerd. His adventurous spirit fuels his goal of visiting every national park, monument, battlefield, and historical site in the country.
At home, Mark’s life is filled with pets, which he lovingly refers to as his “furry and feathered family.” His Orange-winged Amazon parrot Dexter has been with him for 21 years, alongside two dogs, Annie and Cody, and six cats. His devotion to his pets is matched by the joy they bring him, making his life as full at home as it is in his many professional pursuits.
