Oscar was born in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico, though his roots run deep in Belize, both of his parents are Belizean, and it was only natural that he would follow them back to their home. He grew up on the beautiful island of San Pedro before moving to the town of Orange Walk for high school, where he still resides today. From an early age, Oscar felt a strong pull toward helping others. His childhood ambition was to become a Psychiatrist, with a dream of eventually specializing in Abnormal Psychology.
In pursuit of his goals, Oscar studied at St. John’s College Junior College for four years, where he earned not one but two associate degrees, one in Fine Arts and one in Psychology and Sociology. He was far from just a student, though. Oscar stayed deeply involved in campus life, participating in environmental conservation clubs like Oceana and GECCO, as well as student-centered organizations like the Big Brother Club and Peer Helping. After graduating, he worked part-time at his family’s restaurants while also seizing an opportunity to gain professional experience as a work-from-home clerk.
Oscar went on to clerk at Empire Insurance through a local Belizean agency called EthosVAS, an experience that sharpened his organizational skills, deepened his understanding of insurance, and helped him become well-rounded in a professional setting. When the opportunity to speak with WH Law came along, he was immediately drawn to the firm’s structure and the genuine comfort the team had with one another. Most importantly, he saw a team that prioritized helping people, and that was exactly where he needed to be.
When Oscar isn’t in what he calls “Locked-in Mode,” you’ll likely find him deep in a Nintendo game, from The Legend of Zelda to Super Smash Bros. Switch in hand and ready for anything. He’s a natural traveler with friends scattered across nearly every district in Belize, which means there’s always somewhere to go and someone in his corner when he gets there. His family jokes that he travels too much, though he suspects they just wanted to come along. On a perfect day, everything comes together at once: friends, family, his two dogs, warm sun, and good water. That’s the ideal.
